Emergency First Aid at Work for School
The emergency first aid at work for the Appointed person in school course is HSE approved and certification (issued on successful completion of the course) is valid for 3 years.
The course can be given at your school or at our training room in Basingstoke and consists of a minimum of 6 hrs covering the needs of the Emergency first aid at school.
What is the First aid requirement for schools?
Health and safety legislation places duties on employers for the health and safety of their employers and anyone else on the premises. In schools this includes responsibility for the head teacher and teachers, non-teaching staff, pupils, and visitors (including contractors). Who the employer is will depend upon the school. First-aid provision must be available at all times while people are on the premises and also off the premises whilst on school trips.

What do schools need to do?
In light of their legal responsibilities for those in their care, schools should consider carefully the likely risks to pupils and visitors, and make allowance for them when drawing up policies and deciding on the number of first-aid personnel.
You can also use an online tool developed by HSE in collaboration with DfE that enables you to produce a tailored assessment by selecting the relevant hazards and thinking about how you control them. The assessment takes about 20 minutes and you can keep a copy at the end for future reference.
